Useful Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts

Photoshop LogosThis is a quick reference guide to some of your most useful Photoshop shortcuts. If you already know them, great! If not, I highly recommend at least this grouping of shortcuts to be stored away in that brain of yours. They come in quite useful, making your job a lot easier and quicker to do. Let’s face it: point and click with the mouse is just a big waste of time when you can hit a couple buttons.

The Basics

Open: CTRL+O
Save: CTRL+S
Save for Web: CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+S

Copy: CTRL+C
Paste: CTRL+V
Paste Into: CTRL+V

Undo: CTRL+Z

Ruler: CTRL+R
Image Size: ALT+I+I


Merge Down/Linked/Selected: CTRL+E
Merge Visible: CTRL+SHIFT+E
Duplicate Active Layer: CTRL+J


Brush Tool: B
Eraser: E
Brush Size: Scale Up ] , Scale Down [
Pen Tool: P
Zoom/Magnifying Glass: Z
Eyedropper: I
Hand Tool: H or SPACEBAR+Click and Drag


Select All: CTRL+A
Deselect: CTRL+D
Inverse Selection: CTRL+SHIFT+I
Select All on a Layer: CTRL+Click the layer

Image Adjustments

Invert Colors: CTRL+I
Levels: CTRL+L
Hue/Saturation: CTRL+U
Desaturate: CTRL+SHIFT+U

Other Useful Shortcuts

Zoom in: CTRL++
Zoom out: CTRL+-
Zoom to 100%: CTRL+ALT+0 (zero)
Zoom to fit screen: CTRL+)
Fill using Background color: CTRL+Backspace/Delete
Fill using Foreground color: ALT+Backspace/Delete
Change cursor to Crosshair: CAPSLOCK

Also, if you have begun a selection box, a polygonal lasso, an image transform or maybe an adjustment window and want to back out of it, just hit the ESC key.
