The developer of GeoAPI may or may not have struck it rich, considering that the terms of a certain deal remain unknown. But Mixer Labs has at least succeeded in attracting an important company’s eye, as it was acquired by Twitter in the recent past.
This of course counts as a success story for developers – a “that’s what we want to do” sort of example. This development is likely to have further ramifications for developers who work on Twitter apps, though.
Evan Williams, Twitter’s CEO, explained in a post on the Twitter Blog, “The Mixer Labs crew has been working on harnessing the power of local information for a couple years and just recently launched GeoAPI, a comprehensive service for helping developers build geolocation-aware applications. As of today, they’re part of Twitter and will be working to combine the contextual relevance of location to tweets.”
Keep an eye out for new developments in the Twitter/geolocation space, then.
