New Version of WordPress is Released

Looks like we all received an early Christmas present this year! WordPress has released their latest build, codenamed “Coltrane.” From the minute you upgrade to 2.7 you’ll notice a major makeover. I’m normally not a fan of drastic changes in interfaces that I’ve been using for a long time, but Coltrane has won my heart.

The dashboard has been completely redesigned, runs much faster and is fully customizable. You’re now able to drag and drop menu items where you want them. You can choose which items you want to show on your dashboard, and which ones you don’t. Additionally, you can complete just about any task from the convenience of your new dashboard. Anything from moderating and replying to comments, or writing and publishing a new post. There are also many bulk actions you can complete through the interface (i.e. bulk edit posts).

The goal of the new WordPress interface was to maximize usability with speed. The WordPress team spent a long time listening to their users feedback, and figuring out innovative ways to make their product easier and more convenient to use. The launch of this interface has really set the bar high for other blogging platforms. WordPress is already one of the top blogging platforms, but now it is leaps and bounds ahead of its competition. It is amazing to me that a product like this is free.

They also put together this great video that goes over the changes (and the narrator has an awesome accent!)
