The Oscars will be held soon enough, and at the ceremony, celebrities will be given goody bags containing all sorts of expensive stuff. Companies contribute to these bags in the hopes that the celebs will promote their products. Now, presumably for similar reasons, Google’s decided to give more developers Android phones.
Last night, developers whose apps have been downloaded more than 5,000 times and received at least a 3.5-star rating in the Android market started getting emails from the search giant. The emails encouraged them to visit a certain site, agree to some terms and conditions, and provide a shipping address.
Then here’s the payoff: “You will receive either a Verizon Droid by Motorola or a Nexus One. Developers with mailing addresses in the US will receive either a Droid or Nexus one, based on random distribution. Developers from Canada, EU, and the EEA states (Norway, Lichtenstein), Switzerland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore will receive a Nexus One.”
Congrats to all of the developers who are benefiting from this promotion. Don’t forget to thank Google by developing another Android app or two if you get the chance.
