Mac App Store Set To Open January 6th

The date that many Apple-loving developers have been anxiously anticipating has at last been announced.  Earlier today, Apple declared that the Mac App Store will open on January 6th, potentially creating a significant new revenue stream for many people.

Indeed, the initial launch will make the Mac App Store available in 90 countries, so developers won’t be shortchanged in terms of potential users.  Also, free and paid apps alike will be featured from the start, so everyone will begin on equal footing.

Furthermore, an official statement reminded everyone, “Mac developers set the price for their apps, keep 70 percent of the sales revenue, are not charged for free apps and do not have to pay hosting, marketing or credit card fees.”

And Steve Jobs even said, “The App Store revolutionized mobile apps.  We hope to do the same for PC apps with the Mac App Store by making finding and buying PC apps easy and fun.  We can’t wait to get started on January 6.”

This could turn out to be quite a big deal.  Good luck to all developers who will have one or more apps in the running.
