Instagram seems to have become a household name at this point (at least in some circles), and it looks like developers will now be able to more easily benefit from its fame. This week, the company invited developers to sign up for access to its API.
A little background info in case Instagram isn’t yet familiar to you: it deals in “fast beautiful photo sharing for your iPhone,” and though it only launched about four months ago, claims to have almost two million users.
What’s more, those users aren’t exactly sitting on their hands, as Instagram’s seeing an average of 300,000 photos uploaded per day.
So to return to the current development: Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom wrote in a blog post, “Although we’re excited by the growth we’ve seen, we feel that the first step to creating a lasting company is to work with the many talented developers out there in the world. With this, we’d like to invite developers to sign up for access to our API.”
This could a valuable opportunity for developers to become part of something big at an early stage in its corporate life.
