Simulate the look of infrared photography in Photoshop.

Open an image, outdoor scenes with green trees and foilage render the best results. Feel free to experiment with other types of images to see what you can come up with. For this tutorial we’ll be using the image below.

1.) Duplicate the background layer by dragging it to the new layer icon.

2.) Next go to the Channels palette and click on the Green channel to select it

3.) Now apply Gaussian Blur to the Green Channel: Filter >> Blur >> Gaussian Blur

4.5 Radius worked well for this low res image, higher res images will require more blur.

4.) Set the blend mode of this layer to Screen

5.) Add a Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer

Apply the following settings

6.) Adjust the opacity of the layer

7.) Add a new layer above the Adjustment Layer and name it Grain

8.) Fill the layer with White and add Noise: Filter >> Noise >> Add Noise and then set the blend mode to Multiply

9.) Duplicate the background layer and insert it between the Grain layer and Adjustment Layer

Set the Blend Mode to Overlay and the Opacity to 50% and you are done!
