A database company made it big this earlier week. Although financial details weren’t disclosed, IBM announced yesterday that it had acquired Exeros, which should represent about as good an end for the privately held business as its owners could have hoped to see.
Exeros specialized in data discovery software. This tech, in turn, attempted to find and sort out unclear relationships between databases. The fact that IBM is interested in it might be taken as a good sign for the entire sector.
Ambuj Goyal, general manager, IBM Information Management, even stated, “All organizations today are faced with the daunting challenge of turning massive amounts of information into insights to guide their businesses, but many are held back by the complexity of corporate data sources.”
The one problem with IBM showing so much interest in databases is that database companies might now have to compete with the giant more than ever, of course. But individual database professionals can always consider sending their resumes over to the deep-pocketed corporation.
IBM intends to take several months to integrate Exeros into its Information Management Software portfolio, anyway, so you’ve got lots of time to anticipate and plan around any potential problems.
