How To Create A Japanese Coke Zero Advertisement

You gotta love Japanese Ad Culture. Their ads are so obnoxious but they work. So today I will be showing you how to create one.

Open a new document at 1000×750. Set the fill to black. Double click the Background layer to make it layer zero. Then Open the blending options and choose Gradient Overlay. Set your starting color to #81230e, your middle color to #c11424, and your ending color to #451c28.

Next Make a new layer and draw out 9 Rectangular selections and fill them with White. Then go to Filter > Distort > Polar Coordinate and select Rectangular To Polar and hit OK. Set the layer to overlay.

Next we are going to use the Bubble brush we made on the previous tutorial. Make a new layer. Using the pen tool draw out three line of different lengths in a star burst fashion. Then select your brush set the size to 30 pixels and open the dynamics pallette. Check the Shape Dynamic Box and set the Size Jitter to 100%. Then Go to the Scattering and set the Scatter to 900% and the Count to 1. Finally Select Other Dynamics and set the Opacity to 50%. Reselect your pen tool and right click the stroke the paths. Next go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 2 and hit OK. Finally set the layer blend to Color Dodge and the Fill to 50%

With your pen tool still selected go to Edit > Transform > Rotate Path and Rotate the path clockwise 90° and hit Enter. Follow the sames steps as above but do not add a gaussian blur. Set the layer fill to 100% and the blend to Overlay

In the last tutorial I showed you how you to make round bubbles this time using the same technique as before we need to make a square set. Once you have made your square block brush grab your Custom Shape tool and select the shapely heart that comes with Photo Shop. Then Draw it Out in the Right Upper side of the Document. Then go to your brushes and select the block you just made. Set your Foreground to Black. Then use the same dynamics as you did before. Make a new layer. Select the pen tool and stroke the path. Next go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 2 and hit OK. Finally set the layer blend to Soft Light and the Fill to 50%

Make a New layer then go to the Paths Palette and CTRL+Click the Work Path Layer to make a selection. Then go back to your layer palette and fill the selection with black. Then go back to the path pallette and highlight the work path. Using the pen tool stroke the path again.

Since Namie Amuro is the face of Coke Zero in Japan Search for a large photo of her I found a nice Dominatrix photo of her and it is easy to Google. Once you have her image cut her from the original background and we are going to add some blending options. We are going to add an inner shadow with an opacity of 70%, distance of 0, and size of 16.

Now using the pen tool try and emulate the coke wave across the bottom of the document. Make a new layer and fill your wave with white.

Next make a new layer. Then make some tendrils growing off the wave and add some small circles for effect.

Now search for the Japanese Slogan for Coke Zero. There is a really good version of it if you Google it. Cut the white text from the black background and add it to our document. Scale it down to 60% and rotate the text 45° Counter Clockwise.

Now using the pen tool try and emulate the coke wave again this time in the heart. Make a new layer and fill your wave with white.

Next do a search for a large Coke Zero bottle. Cut the bottle from it’s background and add it to our document. Next scale is down to fit between the tendrils under the black heart. Then CTRL+Click the coke bottle layer to make a selection. Make a new layer and fill the selection with white. Set the layer fill to 0% and add a drop shadow. Set the drop shadow opacity to 75% with a distance of 0 and a size of 6. Hide the Coke Bottle Layer for now.

Now grab your Text Tool and type out “Wild Health” make the font MyriadPro SemiBold at 82 pixels centered and add a break between wild and health.

Unhide the Coke Bottle Layer and move it to the top.

Using the Pen tool select the plastic between the cap and the Coke liquid and. Go to your Work Path and CTRL+Click to make a selection. Cut the plastic section to a new layer. Set the layer to Hard Light and you are done. What did you come up with?
