It’s always nice to have an edge, and developers should know that Google’s now offering them one. Take an early look at a whole lot of developer-specific products-in-the-making by ducking into the new Google Code Lab.
A post on the Google Code Blog explains, “The Labs program offers engineering teams at Google and the developer community a chance to explore ideas and get involved early.” So you should be able to help shape young products, or make sure some of the worst ones don’t ever annoy the rest of the world.
There might even be opportunities to weigh in on the progress of Google’s existing offerings, since the post continues, “[S]ome products will have features labeled ‘experimental’ that could change (or even be removed) at any time.”
And all of this should give observant developers the opportunity to better see where Google’s heading as a whole. At no cost (except time spent), of course, since participation’s free.
There are currently 18 products listed on the Google Code Labs homepage as “Products in Labs.” Another 27 fit into the category of “Graduates of Labs.” Have fun exploring if this sounds like your sort of thing.
