Facebook Notifications To Get Cut

Facebook developers, beware: application-to-user and user-to-user notifications are supposed to meet their end very soon.  Communication via stream, inbox, and email is scheduled to take over on March 1st.

Facebook developers who haven’t already figured out an alternate method for keeping in touch with users had better get on the ball.  Many people are concerned that, without notifications appearing on a regular basis, folks will tend to forget about applications, or at least lose interest.

Developers aren’t entirely on their own, though.  Justin Smith wrote yesterday, “Facebook has created a new email sharing API to make it easier for users to share their email addresses directly with developers, encouraging app-to-user communication to happen outside of Facebook altogether.”

Let’s hope the changeover goes off without a hitch.
