Facebook Launches New Registration Tool

Website developers who want to forge a connection with Facebook now have a simpler way of doing so.  Yesterday, the social network unveiled a new registration tool that is meant to act as an alternative to Facebook Login/Facebook Connect.

Paul Tarjan, a Facebook engineer, explained on the official Developer Blog that the new tool “gives website owners the ability to offer quick, easy and social options for sign-up.”  Then he got into the specifics of how well it works.

“By minimizing the friction associated with signing up for a new account and making it easy for people to bring their friends with them, we’ve seen that people are more likely to complete the sign up process, stay on sites longer, share more content, and come back more often,” Tarjan noted.  “For example, in beta tests with FriendFeed, Facebook sign ups increased 300%.”

Technical details are available in the blog post if this interests you.  One small, additional lure: Tarjan said he’d register for any site that uses the tool.

Good luck attracting additional users while you’re at it.
