We’ll admit from the start: because the terms of the deal weren’t disclosed, it remains impossible to say just how much of a fairytale ending this development represents for Tapulous. But the key point is that Tapulous, famous for developing the Tap Tap Revenge series of games, has been bought by Disney.
Assuming someone wasn’t tricked into signing a “we own you now” document, Tapulous represent a definite success story for developers. The Tap Tap Revenge games are nearly omnipresent among iPhone owners now, and famous bands seem to be stumbling over themselves to put out additional unique versions.
Steve Wadsworth, president of Disney Interactive Media Group, even personally noted according to Claudine Beaumont, “In a short time, Bart and Andrew have built Tapulous into a successful and accomplished mobile games developer that’s emerged as one of the most successful companies in the industry.”
But developers who haven’t achieved Tapulous’s level of success shouldn’t feel left out, because Wadsworth also generalized, “Mobile gaming is seeing unprecedented growth and this is the right time to invest to strengthen our position in the mobile business.”
So let’s hope acquisitions will continue to occur in this space, with developers making lots and lots of money.
