There’s more encouraging news today for developers who dream of selling to a big company and retiring to a private island. DeNA has acquired Ngmoco for $400 million.
Ngmoco is the U.S.-based iPhone game developer behind titles like Star Defense, Titan Wars, and We Rule. DeNA, meanwhile, is extremely well known in Japan for the Mobage Town network of games.
So, judging from this news item, it’s more than possible for smaller developers focused on a single platform to attract attention on an international stage.
Plus, there’s also concrete good news for developers not interested in just hoping for the best, since a post on the Ngmoco blog explained, “We’re going to be opening up our platforms and frameworks, allowing [developers] to access both the technologies and traffic that power ngmoco & DeNA products globally.”
Enjoy either the ramifications or the direct results of this development, then.
