Creating Warcraft Game Emblems

Today I am going to show you how to create your own gamer emblems. I am going to use World of Warcraft for the tutorial but you can use any game you like.

Begin by opening a document 500×500. Our final version will be smaller then this but this will make it easier to design our emblem. Next drag out guides 10 pixels from all sides. Now select you Rounded Rectangle Tool, set the radius to 10 pixels. Then make a box along the guides. Go to your paths palette and CTRL+Click on the layer to make a selection. Fill the selection with black. Finally add a stroke and a Gradient Overlay. Set the stroke to 3 pixels inside and set the color to gradient to starting color #921c1a and ending color #2e0000. Then add the gradient overlay, set gradient to starting color #b40909 and ending color #520000.

Make a new layer. This time drag out 4 more guides 20 pixels away from the first set. Again grab your Rounded Rectangle Tool and make a box inside the new guides. Then fill the selection with black and set the layer fill to 0%. Then add a gradient overlay, set gradient blend to Luminosity and make the starting color #00799c and ending color #003c52. Finally go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur set the radius to 4.0 and hit OK.

Now CTRL+Click the base layer to make a selection. Then make a new layer and fill the selection with black. Set the layer fill to 0%. Then add the following blends: Add a Drop shadow in the color of #606864 at 35% opacity, set the Distance, Spread, and size to 3. Then add an Inner Shadow in color #828385 at 85% opacity, set the distance to 6, the choke to 25, and the size to 11. Next add an Inner Glow in the color of #3a3a3a, set the blend to Multiply, the opacity to 50%, and the size to 4. Now add a Bevel and Emboss with a Contour. Set the Bevel and Emboss size to 18, the soften to 2, set the angle to 90 and the altitude to 67, set the highlight to 100% and the shadow to 0% opacity. Finally use the contour editor to make a nice rounded glare on the top like below:

Next Do a search for your game logo or faction Icon. Once you have your icon copy it into a new photoshop document then use the pentool to make an outline of your emblem. Once you have finished your outline go to Image > Canvas Size > Set the size to 500 x 500 unless your is larger. Make a new layer in that document. Go to your paths palette and CTRL+Click on the layer to make a selection. Fill the selection with black. Then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. Name your brush whatever you like. I called mine “Horde”. Then close that document and go back to our emblem. Make a new layer and grab the brush you just made and add one logo in the center.

Now that we have our logo set the layer fill to 0%. Then add these blending options: Add a Inner Shadow, set the blend to Linear Burn, the distance to 0, and the size to 6. Then add a Bevel and Emboss, Set the style to Outer, the technique to soft chisel, the depth to 200%, direction set to down the distance to 5, the soften to 4, set the highlight to overlay in the color #ff8989, and the Shadow to overlay in the color #620000. Finally add a gradient overlay, set the overlay blend to Luminosity and make the starting color #993a1d and ending color #e4a664.

Next make a new layer. Then using the pen tool make an arch from left to right. Make the left side much lower then the right. Then make the path a selection and fill it with white. Then go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur set the radius to 4.0 and hit OK. Now CTRL+Click the base layer to make a selection and cut the extra out and delete it. Finally set the layer blend to overlay and the fill to 40%. Lastly change the size of the document to whatever you like. I chose 200 x 200 but any size is fine.

What does your look like? send me a link to it and I will post it here!
