GEEK TECHThe Guardian is a widely respected British newspaper that was founded in 1821 and is still going strong today. Developers who live in or near London may want to check their schedules for the month of May, then, as they’ve been given an interesting opportunity to visit the paper’s headquarters. Emma Mulqueeny wrote this morning,

GEEK TECHTickets to this year’s Google I/O developer conference sold out in 59 minutes, meaning there are probably a whole lot of folks who never got the chance to buy one. But that doesn’t mean they’re going to miss out, as Google’s now arranged to provide video from certain parts of the event. Yesterday, a post

GEEK TECHAs you may have heard, Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference sold out in less than a day, and secondhand tickets are now in some cases being hawked for more than $4,000. So if you’re looking for a more accessible Apple-related conference to attend, the MacTech Conference may provide an alternative. The MacTech Conference, which is targeted

GEEK TECHThe 2011 Game Developers Conference is over, and by all accounts, it was a huge success. The organizers announced today that a record 19,000 professionals attended, in fact. And the organizers also announced the dates of the next conference, if you’d like to start clearing your calendar and getting deals on flights and hotels. An

GEEK TECHWhere Google goes, developers should perhaps – in a very literal, physical sense – follow. It seems developers who attended Google-led sessions at the Game Developers Conference yesterday received Cr-48 notebooks in return for their interest. Now, we’ll admit: reviews of Cr-48s have made pretty clear that they’re not the best thing ever. They don’t

GEEK TECHAt times, it can be a bit inconvenient to live off the beaten path, and when it comes to major conferences, people often have to undertake very expensive trips unless they already live in California or New York. However, RIM’s looking to accommodate a different audience in January by holding its first-ever developer conference in

GEEK TECHConference organizers sometimes spring their events on would-be attendees, announcing things just one or two months in advance. That’s not FileMaker’s way. Today, FileMaker opened registration for its 2011 Developer Conference, which will be held in August. That leaves developers a whole lot of time in which to decide whether or not they’ll go. It

GEEK TECHAdobe MAX is always impressive. It offers unparalleled networking, fascinating exhibit hall booths and, for the last few years, excellent unconference sessions – all accessible on a $200 exhibits only pass. The general sessions are always well-rehearsed and theatrical, the sneak peeks interesting (with a cool special guest). This year was definitely enhanced by the swag: everyone got a Motorola Droid 2 and a Logitech Revue Google TV box – and a free eBook from O’Reilly! Several people got Blackberry Torch phones too. Sponsors and exhibitors went nuts this year with giveaways (VMware gave away a couple of iPod Touch devices and many booths had iPad raffles).
