As you almost surely know by now – it seems like ABC has been running at least ad per commercial break – it’s about time for the Oscars, where the best movies, actors, and behind-the-scenes people are recognized. And some database experts have been acknowledged, too, as the 2010 CODiE Awards finalists for “Best Database Management Solution” have been named.
An official CODiE Awards page explains that the eventual winner will qualify as “the best software solution for the storage, organization, management, search and retrieval of large quantities of data.” Which is quite impressive.
All of the finalists should meet pretty high standards, though, as it’s a small group of just three solutions that made the cut: Aster nCluster, by Aster Data, MarkLogic Server 4.1, by Mark Logic Corporation, and Sybase IQ 15.1, by Sybase.
Database professionals would do well to either use or learn from these solutions, depending on which side of the consumer/creator divide they’re on. Or perhaps even try to find jobs with the parent companies, since those positions would probably prove pretty stable.
Anyway, the second round of voting began yesterday, and the overall database management solution winner will be announced in May.
