Animated Neon Sign

Create a new document and make the background black. To start out write out in text whatever you want you neon sign to say. I used the Font Eurose.

Now Ctrl – click your text layer. Then make your text layer invisible, by clicking the eye button in your layers palette. Now while you still have you selection going make a new layer. Then go to Edit> Stroke. Stroke: 3 Color: OfC9FF. You should have something like this now:

Now you should have something like this:

So now we want to add a bright spot to give it more of a neon feel. So Ctrl – Click your Original text layer (the one we hid by pushing the eye button). Then create a new layer. Go Edit> Stroke> and Stroke with 1 px WHITE.

Then go to your blending options and insert these settings for your Outer glow area:

Now you should have something like this:

Okay so now we want to animate our neon sign. So start by opening your animation window. Then on the first layer hide the black merged layer (the layer that should be on top). Then make a new slide. Hide the blue neon sign layers (they unmerged 3 px and 1px stroke layers), and unhide the black merged layer. Set the timing on both of them to 5 seconds.

Now you should have something like this:
